Plant vertical Lavender to clean the air
A new study from the University of Surrey, published in the journal Science of the Total Environment reports that plants remove air pollution in 2 steps. Firstly by catching particles of pollution on their leaves and secondly the rain washes the pollution particles away down to the ground. Researchers from the University of Surrey planted 10 different species on a custom built 1.4m green wall next to the A3 in Guildford. They found that Ivy leaves and evergreen Candytuft were especially effective at trapping particles both large and small, Candytuft and Marjoram were effective in washing off small particles and rain was able to wash most of the pollution from the hairy leaves of Lavender.
