Walking can be beneficial for osteoarthritis of the hip
The Arthritis Foundation recommend walking along with other exercise therapy for individuals with osteoarthritis of the hip, “One of the most popular forms for hip arthritis, walking is one we can and should do every day. If you are just beginning a walking program, try to take a few 10 minute walks a day. Start by walking slowly and build your speed and distance over time.”
People with osteoarthritis often experience more severe pain and stiffness first thing in the morning so mobility exercises are great to help relieve the discomfort. Healthy eating and exercise is essential for those living with the condition. Exercises that include movement and resistance training designed to build, strengthen and maintain muscles will also benefit and strengthen the joints. Most importantly do something you enjoy.
NOTE: For some individuals surgery might be appropriate if the damage to the joints is particularly severe, to repair, strengthen or replace a damaged joint.
