Citizen Science boosts wellbeing
According to research published in People and Nature journal, citizen science projects boosts the wellbeing of the participants leaving them feeling closer to nature. The study, Nature Up Close and Personal: A Wellbeing Experiment, recorded the benefits to participants taking part in citizen science activities like counting pollinating insects and butterfly surveys.
In 2022 volunteer recording and citizen science projects across the UK contributed to 2.2 million records including more than 1.5 million images. This data collected by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) is used by the government to report on UK biodiversity trends.
