Hot flushes and night sweats linked to heart health
New research from The University of Queensland found that women who experience hot flushes and night sweats before and after menopause are much more likely to have heart attacks, strokes and angina.
Using data from interLACE a collaboration of 25 studies of more than 500,000 women around the world, researchers found that women experiencing hot flushes and night sweats before and after the menopause, known as vasmotor symptoms or VMS were at a much higher risk of a cardiovascular event than women who weren’t.
Women experiencing VMS before menopause were up to 40% more likely to experience a cardiovascular event and women experiencing VMS after menopause were up to 70% more likely to experience a cardiovascular event.
NOTE: The results from the study are published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. A peer reviewed journal of obstetrics and gynaecology.
