Dietary guidelines not compatible with health and environmental targets
A new analysis published by the BMJ reports that most dietary guidelines are not compatible with global health and environmental targets. The analysis concludes that reforming national dietary guidelines to be both healthier and more sustainable could prevent deaths from chronic disease whilst helping to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
An International team compared the health and environmental impacts along with global guidelines from the World Health Organisation and the EAT-Lancet Commission. The team report that using sustainability models to meet international environmental targets from these reports could help reduce early deaths from diseases including cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
