Eastern mindfulness practices, including Yoga and Tai Chi have a positive impact for those at risk of a stroke and stroke survivors

A paper published in Future Neurology from researchers at Monash University, the University of South Australia and the University of Melbourne highlights the positive impact that mindfulness practices including Yoga and Tai Chi can have on both those at risk of a stroke and stroke survivors.  The researchers analysed 26 studies published between 1985 and 2017 and found that participating in Yoga and Tai Chi can help to reduce hypertension, fatty acids and blood sugar levels.  The researchers found that these practices were especially beneficial for stroke survivors as the chance of a stroke increases after a first stroke and many survivors with limited mobility find the gentleness of these exercises extremely beneficial.
