Belgium’s new food pyramid puts processed meats with junk food
Belgium has released a new, updated food pyramid. Legumes, vegetables, grains, and tofu are amongst those that sit at the top of the pyramid, which has been inverted, as foods to prioritise. Processed meats have been relegated to outside of the pyramid along with fizzy drinks, alcohol, sweets, biscuits and fries with the message that these products should be consumed “as little as possible”. Partway down the pyramid is poultry, eggs, dairy and fish with red meat and butter right at the bottom.
