Almost 4 million people now have diabetes in the UK
Public Health England have revealed that more than 800,000 people have been diagnosed with diabetes since 2009 and today almost 4 million people in the UK are now living with the condition. Public Health England estimate that almost another million Britons are unaware that they are also living with the disease. It is estimated that 1 in 10 people living in the UK will have diabetes within 20 years.
Type 2 diabetes develops when the body is unable to produce enough insulin or the body's cells no longer react to insulin. If left undiagnosed the disease can lead to serious health problems including blindness and amputations.
