People in the UK are getting bigger, according to newly released official figures, an average British man's weight has increased by 12lbs in the last 20 years and for the average British women it has increased by 10lbs.

The director of cancer prevention, Alison Cox at Cancer Research UK, said "Being overweight or obese is the second largest preventable cause of cancer after smoking, so it's important that people are given a helping hand to maintain a healthy weight."
